PACIFIC OCEAN

The pacific is some 166,241,00sq.km.in area.It is the largest of the oceans on Earth.It is more than twice the size of the Atlantic,the next largest ocean.Pacific occupies nearly half the Earth's surface.

It has an average depth of about 3,900m,but in its deepest regions,which are off the Philippine Islands,a depth of 36,198 feet has been recorded.
The pacific is dotted with some 20,000 volcani and coral islands are covered with lush vegetation.
The native island people of the Pacific fall into three main groups,Micronesian and polynesian.
These islanders had originally come from South East Asia.The European settlers arrived here in 1500s.
By the 1800s the islands had become colonies of various powerful countries overseas.Some of these islands have gained independence,yet some others are still under strong foreign control.
